The Story Tyler and I met 3 years ago. Tyler took me on our first date to a cute little bar called Café montmartre. He was very nervous and shy. We spent the evening laughing, and I knew, almost instantly, that I had met my match. We talked about our love for traveling, our love for music, and our passion to be creative. We went forward. I met the little Julian, who was four at the time. I remember his sweet expression when I met him, and how much I knew instantly that I loved this little sweetheart of a child. I saw Tyler with his son, and his deep caring and love for him. It only accelerated my feelings for this man that I will soon call my husband. After about a year of dating, I finally confessed my desire to sing and play music to Tyler. I had always had a secret dream to write and sing, but never had the courage to do either. Tyler was the first person I ever sang in front of. It took over a month of coaxing, but it worked. We wrote our first song together. (Nocturnal Alive—lyrics below) It was at that time that I knew I had found the right one, someone who believed in me, who would encourage me to be the most creative person I could be. It did not matter what the world thought, but only what the two of us felt. I loved that we had passions and hobbies together, something that was sorely lacking from all previous relationships. Even now, we are constantly evolving. We have started to do animations and soon, we will be making our own music videos for our songs. The proposal We were in Boston to celebrate Karen and Dave’s wedding. It was a fun time. It was the first time I was going to meet Tyler’s family, including his mom, so I was bit nervous. Julian was with us as well, so it was a fun family adventure. Tyler and I have always had a love for boats of any sort, so we usually find a way to incorporate a leisurely boat ride or canoe or kayak trip into our trips. This time we had Julian around, so we were trying to pick a boat ride that he’d enjoy. I perused a rack of boat ride brochures, and finally settled upon one called “Codzilla”. It was perfect. The brochure talked about a scripted boat ride with fun twists and turns and it was going tobe fast and wet! Julian would love it, I insisted as Tyler asked me (again) if I didn’t want to go on a more leisurely romantic ride on a different boat. (little did I know he was going to propose, ha) We started the morning early after Karen and Daves wedding. It was a gloomy Sunday with rain predicted. The three of us headed out. Julian was very excited to ride the subway (his favorite mode of transportation!) We got to the Boston Harbor and had some lunch. There were some street dancers, so we decided to go watch them while we waited for our ride. Tyler went to the bathroom (for the second time in 30 mins? I should’ve guessed this was odd but I was distracted) What I didn’t know was that while we watched the street dancers, Tyler was coordinating his proposal with the staff of Codzilla. Poor Tyler was so distracted by getting ready for the proposal, he didn’t realize that the street dancers were still dancing when he came back from the “bathroom”. He walked right into their performance, causing the dancer to mock him and follow him to our seat. (pretty funny video of this, which hopefully I can find and add to this page) We finally boarded the Codzilla about a half hour later. Julian was very excited. He sat on his daddy’s lap and I sat next to them. The Codzilla ride itself was pretty ridiculous. It was filled with follied pirate accents and a story about a giant Cod that lives in the Boston Harbor. The boat twisted and turned and splashed. I had my hoodie pulled tight, and Julian was laughing the whole while. After about a 30 min ride, the boat stopped to finish the story. At the end of the story, the pirate crew went around the boat of about 40 people and asked random questions over the microphone. Eventually they made their way to our row. They turned to Tyler and said “somebody has a burning question to ask”. Tyler feigned confusion, but then, turned to me and said “I have always loved you and I cannot imagine being with anyone else. I am so happy to have you in my life and Julian’s life. Would you marry me?” (I’m sure there was more to it, but in all the excitement and surprise, I cannot for the life of me remember it all) All I could do was laugh and say “Did you just propose to me on Codzilla? Of course I will marry you!” It’s not as if I didn’t know this was coming. Tyler and I had looked at rings and had talked very openly about marriage. He had done the impossible. He had proposed in a way that I did not see it coming at all. It was all so perfect because it was all so silly. Our relationship never had taken itself too seriously. We got off the boat, went on a carriage ride around Boston and called everyone in our families. I was so excited to start my life with my Wood boys. Nocturnal Alive He woke to an eyeful of her face The dreams of nocturnal come alive He wondered if his lips could serve hers With the justice of one more kiss On this hazy morning With words of jest on tongue The laziness of loving her The craziness of truth Makes sprinkles of the dew Makes honey of her too Without a single word Without a single word |
